An established part of the National Holstein Show has been the Genetic Elite Sale and this year 20 Lots were offered including one Dairy Shorthorn. Studying the catalogue whilst at the show what struck me was that the entries offered more by way of outstanding type rather than production, but met a ready trade with a top price of 6,000 gns for a heifer that had been Reserve Junior Champion the day before whilst the Dairy Shorthorn sold for 3,600 gns and she had been the Breed Junior Champion. Our Guernsey Junior Champion Eavesford Onwards Molly, whilst not offered for sale is in fact potentially third generation Excellent and that got me thinking as to how many other pairs of Dam/daughter Excellents there have been. I have come up with with a dozen, but I am sure there must be others so please let me know about those I have missed.
The Instead Beauty's are house cows and I wondered about including them amongst a list of working cows and Leighgrange Red Gold is in the Cross Bred register, I do not know why her Holstein sire or her milk records are not shown by CDI, given that Dairy Co have recently introduced new programmes to measure the impact of cross breeding.

In the holstein world I beleive that 5 gens VG/EX is the marker by which a familiy shows consistent type. Do we have any 5 gen cow families in the breed?

Hi Rob, I am not aware of 5 Gens VG/Ex as yet but the Hamps Valley Beauty's and the Beechgroves Elinors have 4 gens, you have acquired an Elinor already, perhaps you should make time for a trip to Grindon Staffs, where the views from high on the hill are spectacular and the cows are pretty impressive as well.
