Andrew and Debbie Lewis were the main buyers at last weeks Sunninghill Park sale and I visited the farm which is close to Barnstable in Devon yesterday. The 39 Guernseys have settled well and the Lewis's are actively looking for another 20 cows so as to fully occupy the cubicle house that has been set aside for the Guernseys.

In 2001 after Foot and Mouth had devastated Cumbria, John Berry was pleased to be able to sell all of his good high yeilding Sunninghill Park Guernsey herd to the Thomlinson family who asked to be able to use the prefix at Bolton Park Farm, Mealsgate Carlisle, the herd was expanded to over 400 cows and was one of the features of the 2004 World Conference Tour.

In 2002 the Guernsey in the shape of Tiresford Daphne 3 was the Interbreed Champion at both UK Autumn Shows, and in the report written after those events I predicted that we would not have to wait another 20 years for the feat to be repeated as it was in 1982 that the previous Guernsey Interbreed Championship had been achieved.

I have been impressed with the heifers and calves seen on the Canadian tour by Penny Lane Royal Oak Turley, who has a few daughters and one son at Brymor. I saw his dam on my first visit to the USA in the herd at Marodore. He was syndicated at an AGA Conference and the proceeds were given to establish a scholarship fund awarded annually at the Convention in honor of Ralph and Martha Turley.
This calf was seen in the barn of Rob and Julie Mason and was the only Guernsey calf in the barn but was quite outstanding.

The post-conference tour is coming to a close with a visit to Prince Edward Island today and has proved to be physically tiring as the roads of Quebec and the bus used by the tour company have not proven to be compatible. With just 15 on the tour a change from the coach used in the first week was expected, but the bone shaker chozen has left us exhausted at the end of some long days. The Australians and New Zealanders have remained on tour with 3 from England, two different couples from the US and Rob Forster from Canada.

The question of which has been the best Guernsey bull has been the topic on the WGCF Tour bus today as we travelled from Frederickton to Moncton New Brunswick. The question was posed by Bernie Heissner who used to work for the AGA and now works for COBA/Select Sires. He and Blaine Crosser had made a list score whilst at the conference, triggered by the "genomics" debate and wondering which of the most successful bulls had the "least" relationship and could therefore offer "outcross" genetics.
