The ARC-Addington Fund, one of the Farming Help charities and helps maintain the economic and social fabric of the farming community, held a Harvest Lunch at Stoneleigh on the 17th September to which Brian Adams, John Berry and myself were invited. We are involved with the selection, showing and rearing of Aber Showtime Dancer 5 aka Claudia. She has had four outings so far this year and is entered for the South West Dairy Show and the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show in October.
Claudia is due to be served in the next fortnight with “sexed” Spring Walk Sherbert Mint semen adding two more generations of Excellent classified cows to the “mix”. The plan agreed on Friday is that tickets will be available for sale at the two upcoming shows and through the winter and at the Spring shows next year with the proceeds going to ARC-Addington.
Since the formation of the ARC-Addington Fund in 2001 in the midst of the Foot and Mouth epidemic more than £11 million pounds have been distributed to over 22,000 recipients who have fallen on hard times.
Increasingly now money is being invested in homes for those wishing to retire and recently three farms have been given over and will provide the first rungs on the farming ladder for new entrants.
