One of the most memorable visits in Canada on the recent tour was to Don Haven Guernseys where the Guernseys are part of a mainly Holstein herd but also share the barn with some Ayrshires. There were about 15 Guernseys to see, and all bar one are descended from the original cow and Don Haven Deemand Vespa was the unanimous choice of the “international” judges.
Scott Gordon has kept in touch since the conference and has just sent me details of the most recent show, where 34 Guernseys from three exhibitors (the Eby’s, the Forsters and the Gordons) were competing at the Rockton World Fair, where Guernseys reappeared after an absence of 15 years.
The Gordon’s were awarded the Championship with Don Haven Royalty Vanity and Reserve Champion with Don Haven Power Viola, the first time that they have taken a senior Championship. The eight classified members of the V family now average over 85 points.
Scott Gordon has a working age Showtime son of Vanity for sale and with Showtime being named Premier Sire at Madison, the timing could not be better.
