Cross-Bred Winner

Cracker Noel Ex 90 was named as the leading individual production cow in the Dorset and Somerset Annual competitions, she is a daughter of Shalford Luxury and out of a Pedigree Jersey bred by Mrs Emma Crouch’s parents.

Noel is a sixth calver and has regularly given over 9000 litres and has a H85 three quarter bred daughter Cracker Noel 4 that has given over 7000 kg as a heifer.

There seems to be a degree of confusion with the Classifiers as other high quality cross bred cows are being refused Classification. There are now more than 200 females in the cross bred register and whilst the old Winherd system was unable to accommodate them but they do appear in the web based system we have now, but I notice that the pedigree parent from the other breed is not being displayed. I do not understand this as Dairy Co have changed the evaluation system to reflect the move to use other breeds on the Holstein particularly in the spring calving herds.

It would be interesting for someone to compare the difference between the mainly Pedigree Guernsey dams and the Cross Bred daughters for production and if scored for classification.
