Dairy Event and Livestock Show 2011

The new look DLES, Dairy Event and Livestock Show, does not quite seem to have got it right as the Judging has been split over the two days with maiden, in calf and in milk heifers judged yesterday and with in milk cows to be judged today.
Numbers forward yesterday in all breeds other than Holstein and Jersey were disappointing but the quality of the winners was good, but I will wait until after today to write the report.
There were however some interesting developments, a young man from Finland who had visited the World Dairy Expo at Madison and seen and been impressed by the Guernseys there has imported 6 embryos and is expecting two Guernsey calves in February 2012 and is interested in embrios and semen from the UK.
Another gentleman from Eire would also like to “improve” his Jerseys with Guernsey semen and or embrios or weaned calves !
A third young man whose family sold their Guernseys about 10 years ago is coming to the ABAB in October but needs a Guernsey calf to show, any offers !
Another ex-owner of Guernseys admits to have come full circle as having changed his Guernseys to Holstiens and his Holsteins into British Friesians now wants to use Guernsey semen to put some milk back into his herd.
Fortunately our hard working Presidents George and Elsie Fallows are on hand to help and the Cheshire Brie from the Hope family is being much appreciated.
I heard for the first time yesterday that Suffolk Farmhouse Cheeses are available at the Savoy in London and the Savoy contacted Jason and Katherine via Google asking for the Cheese and our now “followers” of Suffolk Farmhouse Cheese on Facebook!
