Easby Dispersal Sale October 2010

Dena and Andrew Waters dispersed their Holstein and Guernsey herds at Beeston Market, Tarporley Cheshire on the 4th October 2010 and the Guernseys found a much better trade given the age profile of the different breeds. 18 of the 44 Holsteins made more than 1000 gns with a top price of 1420 gns for Lot 34.

The first 13 of the 38 calved Guernseys had had more than 5 calves and they got the sale off to a slow start with most of them bought by Andrew Hope who is just half a mile from the Market and who is increasing his Guernsey numbers as his processing unit on the farm comes on stream.

Lot 49 Easby Pansys Jordan for 850 gns was one of 7 lots bought by Andrew and Debbie Lewis for their Hartland View herd at Barnstable  and Tony Dallyn their neighbour bought two EX Classied daughters of Shalford Rumbustious Lot 71 Easby Julia 6th for 680 gns and Lot 47 Easby Ramona 6th for 600 gns for his Fortuna herd.

Lot 59 Easby Bracken 10 was one of the best of the older cows and at 1620 gns she was the first of 5 females bought by Alun Jones from Pwllheli North Wales to establish a nucleus of Guernseys in his Holstein herd. He also bought Lot 68 Easby Periwinkle 7th for 1050, Lot 72 Easby Periwinkle 8th for 1850 , Lot 78 Easby Peony 4th for 1100 and Lot 87 Easby Julia 10th a maiden heifer for 850 gns, and was underbidder on the two top priced lots.

Philip Jeffries from Welshpool was the buyer of Lot 67 Easby Lady Heidi and she was sold for 2450 gns and he also purchased Lot 71 Easby Julia 7th for 1550 gns and they will join his mainly Ayrshire herd.

Lot 74 Easby Polyanthus 10 was one of five daughters of Edgewater Meadows Yogibear that averaged a remarkable 1700 gns and she is due in December to Turley and made the top price of 2700 gns, she will be joined in the Trewarnevas herd of the Grose family by Lot 80 Easby Polyanthus 12 sold for 1600 gns and a very correct milky daughter of Ripley Farms R O Royalty.

The underbidder for Lot 80 was Colin Evans and he went home empty handed but his neighbour Merion Jones bought two good young cows for his Aber herd Lot 70 Easby Valerie 3 for 1200 and Lot 81 Easby Ramona 7 for 1150 gns.

Two other lots made more than 1000 gns they were Lot 69 Easby Lily 2nd bought over the telephone for 1220 gns and the in calf heifer Lot 83 Easby Bracken 13th for 1100 and she was bought by James Warren for the Tredinney herd in Cornwall.

There were only 6 maiden heifers on offer including a three week old heifer calf and they averaged 680 gns with the top price of 900 gns for the yearling Easby Polyanthus 13 Lot 88 and proved that there is demand out there for quality cattle.
