7 Guernseys from 3 exhibitors were competing at the Edenbridge & Oxted Show in the Any Other Dairy Breed Section competing with Gloucester and Brown Swiss females with David Winnington a leading Dairy Shorthorn breeder and exhibitor as Judge.
Whilst numbers were limited, quality was good with The Dean Family who show Jerseys as well as Guernsey and Swiss having 8 animals forward including 2 Guernseys, Andrew Waters had three forward and Robert Page had two forward.
The maiden heifer Hoppickers Lilys Flame took second place for the Dean family competing with a pair of Gloucesters.
The incalf heiifer Nuthurst Princess 609 was placed first for Robert Page who had a in calf cow placed third behind the Dean’s Brown Swiss cow.
Two good in milk cows gave David Winnington his most difficult decision and he placed the younger Easby Lady Heidi as first and Champion with Hampton Lily 509 as Reserve Champion. Lily is a Ex 90 fourth calved daughter of Shalford My Dear and gave over 9000 kgs in her last lactation. She is milked and housed by Maggie Howie also active in the Ayrshire and Jersey rings and the Deans were well deserved Dan Young cup for the exhibitor gaining most points in the cattle classes.
