High Prices for USA Guernseys

The Annual Sale at the US Guernsey Convention in Pennsylvania was held on Monday and achieved an average of over $4000 for 41 live lots. The catalogue and sale results are online within the US Guernsey website.

The top priced Lot was Lot 1 a choice of either a Lang Haven Decision Natural or a Edge Water Meadows Yogibear heifer from the 2008 Interbreed Champion at Madison, Indian Head American Pie Ex 94, and she sold for $15,000 (£10,000) and it was the LH D Natural calf that was chosen.

Lot 2 a Yogibear daughter of Cedar Ridge Altann Ex 95, who has several sons now proven in AI, including Aaron, Alstar and Altanic Aaron is the No 1 Proven sire in both the UK and the USA.

Alstar is now available in the UK through EGCS.

Altanic was selected for use as a young sire in the UK, but died when at Select Sires before he had any semen EU qualified, he is currently the highest Proven sire for Milk production in the USA.

The heifer calf sold for $10100, Sniders Farm was the venue for one of the visits and Altann, who is now 14 with her female family was a feature.

Lot 3 was  a Challenge daughter of Dix Lee Tiller Joke Ex 93, she had been the top priced lot at an AGA sale (£34,000) and was Breed Champion at Louisville in 2009, she has Aaron sons in AI at Semex and at Select Sires. The heifer was purchased for $9000 by John Ayars of Land of Living who i think was under bidder for Joke previously.

Kivells are planning a Gold Top Sale at Bristol on 27th August 2010 and are very keen to include Guernseys, the question that arises is will our UK breeders support it?
