North Somerset and Devon Shows

Show News

The show season has started with the North Somerset and Devon shows and numbers of Guernseys at both were lower than in previous years, due to a combination of Blue Tongue movement restrictions and also key exhibitors having on-farm developments which prevented their involvement.

Congratulations however to those who were there, the Durbins and Parfitts at North Somerset and the Greenslades, Vincents, Whites and, for the first time at Devon, James & Shelley Warren.

James & Shelley were also showing Jerseys in the World Jersey Conference show and had a First, Second and Fourth with their Jerseys.

Champion at North Somerset was Bickfield Dot who is in her fourth show season but looks as if she is fresher-calved than previously and will be the ante-post favourite for next week’s Bath & West.

The Champion and also Interbreed Production Inspection Champion at Devon was Laity Farm Primrose 96 from James & Shelley, who has featured in every show season since first appearing at the Guernsey Conference show in 2004 at the Bath & West, when incidentally there were 80 Guernseys forward.

JCS were surely disappointed to have only 5 exhibitors supporting their showcase and it perhaps demonstrates the differences between those who keep Jerseys and those who keep Guernseys!
