This years South West All Breeds Calf show at Wadebridge on 2nd September saw the Guernseys having the most calves catalogued from the four dairy breeds but unfortunately late withdrawals and the start of the autumn school term meant that only 16 of the 30 calves were forward.
Gerald Ley from Devon was the Judge and he had five calves born between 1st Jan and 30th June 2010 in the first class. The Warren family had the first placing with Tredinney Yogis Excellance 8, with another Tredinney calf T Astronomers Elegy 15 shown by Caitlin Eddy in second place with Ian Rowe’s Greensfield Lucky Pippin in third place.
Class 2 for calves born between 1st Sep-31st Dec 2009 also had five forward. Ian Rowe’s Rowan Chandelier was placed first, she had won her class at the Royal Cornwall in June, and is the first heifer calf that Ian has had born since he started with a different Guernsey heifer calf bought each year since 2005 to allow him to compete at the South West shows. Ian was one of the founder members of the FGB at the Tredinney camp in 2005.
In second place was Quickbrew Iceberg Marigold from the Senior family from Crewkerne Somerset with Tredinney X Factors Rose 19 in third place.
Class Three for calves born between 1st May and 31st August 2009 had three forward and Tredinney Yogis Bunty 8 was placed first with Trewarnevas Ivors Cinderella in second place and Aber Showtime Dancer 6 in third place.
The Mature class for calves born between 1st Jan and 30th April 2009 again had three forward and Trewarnevas Hercules Laurinda was placed first with Cadbury Hawk Poppy 73 in second place with last years Champion Tredinney Prince After Eight 2 in third place.
The Championship was awarded to Rowan Chandelier with Quickbrew Iceberg Marigold in Reserve and was the first time that either exhibitor has featured in the Championship at this show.
