Stithians Show in Cornwall is and has been for several years the most keenly contested Guernsey show and for that matter it is one of the few summer shows to still provide competitive classes for all of the dairy breeds.
The 2009 show saw a new “star” emerge as Champion making her show ring debut and she was Clay Hill Glenda 4, a daughter of Easby Alacrity she was spotted by James Warren in the spring and bought privately from the Foords and is the second cow from Sussex to win a Championship in Cornwall this summer.
Glenda 4’s dam was VG 86 and sired by Tiresford Atlantic whilst the grandamn was sired by Royal Prince 3rd of Otterbourne, who was imported from Guernsey Island.
My informant tells me that when teamed up with the two heifers Clay Hill Chrissie 4 and Tredinney Chillers Primrose 18 they made an outstanding group of three and made a great impression on those on the ringside.
Also competing at Stithians at what is their “local” show were the Grose family and they for the first time were competing in the Holstein classes and their “Red and White” cow went on to be Supreme Champion of the show whilst on this occasion JJ Grose had the advantage over cousin Chloe in the Under 9’s calf handling , but don’t expect that to become a regular occurence now that the ponies have been replaced in the stables by Guernsey calves !
