Robert and Sue Bevin held their dispersal sale of the Watling Guernsey herd on the farm in the village of Willey, Rugby in Warwickshire. The cows sold well with 17 Lots making more than 800 with a top price of £1010 for Lot 33 Watling Oberons Lara bought by Mr and Mrs Tandy to join their Holstein herd.
There were four other “new” buyers also adding Guernseys to their Holstein herds as well as some of the established Guernsey Breeders.
Mr Welsh bought 7 lots with Lot 25 Watling Arrow Head Dianne at £870 the dearest, with Lot 30 Watling Arrow Head Joy at £830 and Lot 17 Watling Enhancers Elizabeth at £800 and Lot 17 Watling Ronalds Elizabeth also at £800.
Alan Thomas from Wolston bought 4 females and these included 2 of the VG Classified cows paying the second highest price of £990 for Lot 41 Watling Rumbustious Georgina a fresh calved seventh calver who is just 10 years old.
Mr Thomas also bought Lot 3 Watling Regis Fragrant who is VG 86 and second generation VG and mother of the stock bull Lot 62, Watling Fragrant Iceberg, he failed to sell in the ring but was bought after the sale by Olive Farm Babcary.
Mr Vernon bought 5 cows inclluding Lot 32 Watling Alacrity Geordie at £840.
Mr James bought 5 cows including Lot 8 Watling Fables Hermia at £805.
The established Guernsey breeders who were buying included Tony Dallyn who bought 10 lots for his Fortuna herd near Bartstable, Devon including Lot 22 Watling Laddies Hyde Pearl for £810
Merion Jones purchased four fresh calved heifers for his Aber herd at Carmarthen and these were Lot 60 Watling Royal Oaks Geranium at £980, Lot 64 Watling Nimrods June at £940, Lot 63 Watling Nimrods Topic at £810 and Lot 59 Watling Nimrods Sadie 2 at £800.
Coral and Matthew Senior who have recently moved to Crewkerne to take up a share farming partnership with a 250 cow predominantly Jersey herd bough 6 spring calving cows and 3 in calf heifers for their Quick Brew herd, they included Lot 49 Watling Arrow Head Bertha at £830 and Lot 26 Watling Storms Julie at £810, the three In calf heifers were all sired by Iceberg and averaged £630.
Ron Smith from Norfolk bought 3 cows for his Wayford herd with Lot 12 Watling Highness Fresco at £800.
The young cattle sold welll and there were 60 of them with served heifers selling to £475 on three occasions for heifers due from April 2010, with maiden heifers selling to £430 and yearling calves selling to £380 with August born calves selling to £215.
