20 cows from the Webbery herd were sold today at Hallsworthy Market meeting a strong trade.

The cows were due to calve in November and December and so all were dry, which meant that the principal buyer was able to come down from Yorkshire and purchased 7 lots, this was Ken Prestidge from Leyburn who is looking for a nucleus of Guernseys to add to his Shorthorn herd.

Ken is taking possesion of a new farm having successfully recovered from a major health problem, and his herd of cows have been looked after by a friend in Wales and will travel to Yorkshire soon and these 7 guernsey cows will join those bought at the recent Coopers Court sale.

The 7 cows averaged £900 a piece and included Wellingham Linda 87 at £1300 who is sired by Riverwood Magic Fable.

The top priced lot was Lot 1 and she was sired by Mytles Summets Cicero and was bought over the phone for £1600 to an unnamed buyer, but I will probably stumble across her next week on my travels in the west.

The youngstock from the Sandy Hole herd did not reach their reserves but my informant thought that they were a very uniform bunch.
