BOCADDON Heifer Dispersal Sale 26th Nov 2010
24 Guernsey heifers from the Bocaddon herd of the late Rob Maiklem were sold through Hallworthy Market on Friday 26th November, alongside the Holsteins also bred by Rob under his Risingstar prefix. The young man before his tragic accident in July could be truly described as the “rising star” of the Guernsey breed, and those who received the catalogue will have appreciated just what a quality herd Bocaddon was becoming.
There were two milking heifers and Lot 7 Rosewood Charlies Fleurie sold to Mr Stevens for £1080 whilst Lot 5 a very fresh daughter of Trewey Surprise sold for £980.
The nine in calf heifers met a strong trade and four of them sold for more than £1000 as compared to only one of the Holstein heifers sired by Shottle and she traced to the famous Swampy Hollow Elevation Sweet and had 8 generations of VG or Ex cows behind her.
The top priced Guernsey in calf heifer was Lot 99 Rosewood Luxurys Linnette 2 whose Ex 94 point dam was born at Treloweth from the Slindon Linnette family and she was purchased by the Grose family.
Lot 89 Clay Hill Edens Lynne made £1200 and was bought by Mr Harris and this big strong heifer is a daughter of Clay Hill Lynne 2 recently scored Ex 91 after completing a 10,000 kg lactation at Tredinney.
Lot 90 Rosewood Rob Eve made £1300 to an anonymous buyer and she traced to the Ex 93 Sharcott Winnie 2 who was the top priced lot at the Sharcott Sale and placed second behind the Champion at the DFE in 2000 on the only time she was shown.
Lot 91 Rosewood Tradition Jane was bought for Dairyland Farm World visitor attraction in Cornwall as one of a multi-breed demonstration team to get the dairy farming message across to the general public.
Lot 92 Bocaddon Glacier SPA Dolly was bought for £1120 by Andrew Lewis for the Hartland View herd at Barnstaple and he also bought Lot 95 Rosewood Charlie Grandee for £900.
Amy Jasper from Pendeen, Cornwall bought three good heifers to join the newly pedigreed Tregaminion herd Lot 93 for £700, Lot 97 for £580 and Lot 139 for £450.
James Warren paid £800 for Rosewood Tradition Suzi who is potentially 4th Gen VG and from a particularly good uddered cow family.
Lot 142 was the pick of the bulling heifers Rosewood Tradition Grandee , her dam was Ex and GDM and had 10 lactations and the VG85 grandam Bowhill Christine 37 left a tremendous family behind her at Sunninghill Park and she made £1500 to the Grose family with Alan Thomas from Lutterworth Leicestershire the disappointed underbidder.
Alan Thomas was able to buy three other bulling heifers Lot 143 Rosewood Winns Topic for £450 and Lot 146 Rosewood Weston Precious who combines the famous Eby Manor W family from Canada with the Ex 91 Rosewood Precious who is one of the EGCS potential bull mothers.
The final Guernsey to be sold was the 16 month old Bocaddon Hercules Polyanthus and she is backed by the three generation Ex Polyanthus family from Easby and Buckmotts and she made £440 to Alan Thomas.
