Highest Yielding Guernsey Cow in 06-07 Recording Year

Oxlynch Olivet 34 is the highest yielding cow in England and Wales and has produced 10,826 kg @ 5.32% Fat and 3.5% Protein which is 955 kg of Fat + Protein and makes a one of a select few to have given more than 900 kg. Looking back at a previous table in another place, I see that there have only been 12 cows at or above the 900 kg level with 2 cows Sunninghill Park Abigail (981 kg) and Boskenna June (958 kg) ahead of Olivet 34.

The Oxlynch herd is owned by Rachel and Andy Payling in Gloucestershire, which has had an ongoing battle with TB having twice had major breakdowns and the loss of many good cows.

It is good to see a young couple on a Council Smallholding, producing cows of this calibre — this is no flash in the pan as Olivet averages 8900 kg for her first 4 lactations. She is a Supplementary Registered cow and so has no sire ID, but is out of a Golden Whey Magic Enticer dam.

In second place with 931 kg of Fat + Protein from a third lactation of 10601 kg @ 5.23% Fat and 3.56% Protein is Luckley Indigo 16 Ex 90, she averages 9162 kg and is a Rozelyn Enhancer Jordan daughter out of an Ex classified Royal Oak.

Indigo has recently calved and is regularly giving over 40 kg daily having touched 45 kg, which for those of you who are old enough to remember is 10 gallons of milk; she has a bull calf with a GMI of over +400. She is owned by Digby Gribble as part of the Chettle Guernsey Cream business, but the credit should go to Ian Crouch who managed her through most of the lactation.

In third place and recently scored Ex 95 is Laity Farm Primrose 96 from the Warren family at Penzance and she has given 890 kg from a 5th lactation of 9564 kg @ 5.8% Fat and 3.5% Protein. She is a daughter of Trotacre Jay Mr Luxury and has been Champion on each of her 3 outings this year.
