The 2011 show at the NEC at Birmingham saw the National All Breeds Show that was last staged at Stoneleigh in Feb 2010 merged with the Dairy Event and Livestock Show. Whilst the DELS is well established as the premier trade show, with most of those who deliver goods and services to the UK Dairy Industry represented and launching their new products at the show, the new format with the judging spread over two days and with small numbers forward in most of the breeds did not match up to the expectation or the opportunity.
British Friesian had 5 forward from 2 exhibitors, Guernsey 12 from 5 exhibitors, Dairy Shorthorn 13 from 3 exhibitors, Ayrshire 16 from 7 exhibitors, Brown Swiss 30 from 8 exhibitors, Jersey 30 from 11 exhibitors and Holstein 121 from 20 exhibitors.
There were 4 Guernsey maiden heifers forward and Hilcol Delta Gwawr from Colin and Hilary Evans was a handy winner of this class, with Cadbury Royal Delta Pretty 87 in second place and Hilcol Delta Catrin in third place.
There was only one Guernsey in calf heifer forward from Chettle Farm she was Blacknor Banger Margaret and she was named as Junior Champion.
Colin Gleed then had three in milk heifers to judge and he placed Rosewood Tradition Suzi first from Daffyd and Helen Cox who were showing Guernseys for the first time at Birmingham, with Cadbury Hawk Onyx 2 from Richard Norman and Catherine Mills in second place and Sharnford Lucinda from Jason and Katherine Salisbury in third place.
Day 2
Colin had three junior cows to judge and placed Cadbury Hawk Pretty 86 in her second lactation in first place , and who had been second at the Dairy Show as a heifer in milk last year in a strong class last year , with the third calved Bickfield Rainbow 51 from the Evans & Sales partnership in second place with Blacknor Liz 2 whom Emma Greenslade was unable to get to parade in third place.
Colin Evans had the only senior cow forward and she was Lodor Sioned 2 sired by Dawn Jay Ivor.
Colin Gleed made Pretty 86 Champion with Rainbow 51 as Reserve and Tradition Suzi as Hon Mention.
