The second cow in this series is Nuthurst Princess 584, she is one of two Nuthurst cows in the Jan 09 Dairy Co top 1000 with more than eight calves.
Nuthurst is probably the longest continuously pedigreed Guernsey herd in the UK, having been established by Prince Littler in the 1940’s, I grew up under the tutelage of the late Stan Huntley and it is great to see Matthew Eely, Stan’s grandson in charge of the herd and quite sobering to hear that Matthew has a 15 year old son!
The Nuthurst herd now owned by Blyth Model Dairies, has passed through 3 different ownerships over the last 70 years but the same family have cared for the cows over that same period.
Nuthurst Princess 585th who is possibly the 20th generation of this cow family in the herd is by Trotacre Jay Mr Luxury and has given over 47,000 kgs and 3700 kgs of Fat + Protein in her 7 completed lactations and calved her 7th calf in 6 yrs and 8 mths after her first.
She has never been re- classified but is a long way above the H76 score awarded to her in 2000.
