7 Guernseys from 3 exhibitors were competing at the Edenbridge & Oxted Show in the Any Other Dairy Breed Section competing with Gloucester and Brown Swiss females with David Winnington a leading Dairy Shorthorn breeder and exhibitor as Judge.
Auctioneers Kivells had invited Guernsey breeders to join with Jersey breeders in a sale at the Bristol Sales centre close to the M5 motorway.
Three breeders had brought forward 42 females which met a sound trade particularly for the calved cattle.
The Webbery herd located near Bideford, Devon has between 35-40 Guernsey heifers for sale served to calve in February 2011. These heifers have been reared at grass and will be calving at approx. 2 years of age.
This particular beautiful girl has arrived in the most perfect home at Arundells Farm, Curry Rivel and has ended a long succession of bull calves born to the Guernsey heifers reared by Brian and Sheila Adams.
Great overview of the conference. I didn’t hear all of the speakers so it is good to have the synopsis you provided. Thanks Digby!
Colin and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the tour in Fredericton. The farms were wonderful as was the company we kept. The bus trip, even though the transportation was suspect, was the highlight with the visiting and getting to know each other better. Looking forward to Guernsey! 😀
Dairy Co published the August proofs yesterday morning and the top 20 International bulls include 15 bulls with daughters in England and Wales. In first position and with a GMI of +387 an increase of +30 points of GMI is Sniders Option Aaron (Number 1 in the USA as well). He has a reliability of 94% and has more UK daughters in his proof than US, which emphasizes the benefits of the GGBP in the UK.
Andrew and Debbie Lewis were the main buyers at last weeks Sunninghill Park sale and I visited the farm which is close to Barnstable in Devon yesterday.
The 39 Guernseys have settled well and the Lewis’s are actively looking for another 20 cows so as to fully occupy the cubicle house that has been set aside for the Guernseys.
