Comparison for PLI between Cows of the Main Breeds
Dairy Co produce tables for Genetic Trends for all of the Dairy Breeds in the UK, and I have been looking at the differences between the Five main Breeds, Ayrshire, Dairy Shorthorn, Guernsey, Holstein and Jersey.

There are 14 Guernsey heifers in the January 09 Dairy Co rankings that have a GMI of more than +350, they are sired by 9 different sires and the list is dominated by 6 daughters of Trotacre Jay Mr Luck in the Briddlesford herd.

There are 18 Young Guernsey Bulls with daughters born in the UK that are awaiting their first proofs, the number of daughters listed are registered with EGCS and most of these bulls will have additional daughters in herds on Guernsey Island.

One of the strengths of the Guernsey Breed is the ability of some of the females to go on and on and on, seem to remember another famous Lady making some such statement.

Dairy Co released the January Proofs last week and there has been a change at the TOP of the UK rankings with Sniders Option Aaron moving above Tiresford Pedro but both bulls have well balanced proofs for Production and Type Improvement.
On Your Farm BBC Radio 4
The edition of this long running Radio 4 programme on 28th December 2008 featured Mike and Clare Cox from Kiln Farm Alderney. The programme relayed the background to their arrival on Alderney and the development of the business, into the provision of meat and milk products to the residents on Alderney and, a developing market for their yoghurt and butter to Guernsey, as well as their butter to England.

Marketing Guernsey Milk
Quality Milk Producers (QMP) held their 53rd AGM, yesterday at Holmfirth in Yorkshire, at the Longley Farm Dairy premises of the Dickinson family. Longley Farm is the most successful business that utilises mainly Jersey milk in a full range of dairy products, but with the concentration on cream and the by-products of cream. There were approx 20 people present, two thirds of whom were producers; disappointingly there was only one Guernsey producer present. QMP were founded by both Guernsey and Jersey producers and control the Gold Top brands on behalf of both breeds.
