The new venue at the NEC at first sight of the regulations seemed to have banned the provision of refreshments by the trade stands and so the Guernsey stand was going to be “dry” as in the end were the Jersey and the Shorthorn stands.

Dairy Event and Livestock Show 2010

The Dairy Event (as it is still known) despite two name changes in recent years moved to “pastures new” this year and was staged at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) at Birmingham which is within walking distance of both the Airport and the Railway station as well as being linked to the M42 and M6 motorways. The new venue has allowed a reorganisation of the various sections of the show and “feedback” from various traders was that they had had two busy days.

EGCS Annual Competitions 2009( Part 2)

The second part of the EGCS Annual Competitions are for high yeilding Individual cows and groups of cows.

The Lovett Cameron Memorial Challenge Trophy awarded to the homebred cow that is VG or better and qualifies for a Production Award and has the highest weight of Fat +Protein

South West All Breeds Calf Show 2010

This years South West All Breeds Calf show at Wadebridge on 2nd September saw the Guernseys having the most calves catalogued from the four dairy breeds but unfortunately late withdrawals and the start of the autumn school term meant that only 16 of the 30 calves were forward.

Gerald Ley from Devon was the Judge and he had five calves born between 1st Jan and 30th June 2010 in the first class. The Warren family had the first placing with Tredinney Yogis Excellance 8, with another Tredinney calf T Astronomers Elegy 15 shown by Caitlin Eddy in second place with Ian Rowe’s Greensfield Lucky Pippin in third place.

EGCS Annual Competitions 2009

The results for the EGCS Annual Competitions have been announced and are based on milk records produced between 1st October 2008 and 30th September 2009.

There are two classes for the herd with the highest average weight of Fat + Protein and are for Large and Small herds.

Edenbridge & Oxted Show 2010

7 Guernseys from 3 exhibitors were competing at the Edenbridge & Oxted Show in the Any Other Dairy Breed Section competing with Gloucester and Brown Swiss females with David Winnington a leading Dairy Shorthorn breeder and exhibitor as Judge.

Hartland View Herd

Andrew and Debbie Lewis were the main buyers at last weeks Sunninghill Park sale and I visited the farm which is close to Barnstable in Devon yesterday.

The 39 Guernseys have settled well and the Lewis’s are actively looking for another 20 cows so as to fully occupy the cubicle house that has been set aside for the Guernseys.

Sunninghill Park Dispersal

In 2001 after Foot and Mouth had devastated Cumbria, John Berry was pleased to be able to sell all of his good high yeilding Sunninghill Park Guernsey herd to the Thomlinson family who asked to be able to use the prefix at Bolton Park Farm, Mealsgate Carlisle, the herd was expanded to over 400 cows and was one of the features of the 2004 World Conference Tour.
